U.S. Air Force Taps Blockchain To Train Supply Chain Professional

In yet another interesting application of the blockchain technology, the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) unveiled an educational tool to train supply chain management professionals. The interactive free tool will help professionals to learn about “blockchain and its potential use-cases,” reports MMH publication.

AFIT Develops Blockchain Tutorials to Provide Better Training

The U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) is the graduate learning school for the U.S. Air Force. It imparts proper knowledge and guidance to the defense community and enhances their decision-making abilities for the future. Researchers for supply chain management at AFIT have done enough homework to tackle some of the pressing issues, like security and tracking, using blockchain.

The interactive tool developed by AFIT will educate supply chain professional about blockchain and its potential use-cases. Also, the institute recently published a live blockchain application which works any computer or smartphone.

Furthermore, AFIT has released video tutorial which provides a walk-through to blockchain simulation. The defense community can use these video tutorials as standalone classroom modules or incorporate them as part of business meetings or classroom exercises.

Leveraging Blockchain for Supply Chain

Experts say that blockchain provides a robust and efficient digital infrastructure for the future growth of the supply chain industry. Moreover, transparency and better visibility always remain as the key touch-points for selecting blockchain.

The armed forces can thus streamline its extremely complex logistics network using the blockchain. Current information systems still lack the efficiency to track supplies sent from one end to the other end of the planet.

Using the blockchain will permanently record every transaction for the supplies at each stage. Thus blockchain-based digital ledger provides elegant solutions to overcome the complex challenges.

One of the most essential utilities of blockchain in the supply chain is the ability to track a component during its entire lifecycle. Thus blockchain provides complete visibility into the component “point of manufacture to its eventual decommissioning and disposal.” This will help them to mitigate the menace of re-used products sold in gray markets as new ones.

Furthermore, the can also jeopardize the security of machines due to unexpected breakdowns. Also, tracking the decommissioning and disposal can ensure that “hazardous materials are properly disposed of, or that those re-usable components are properly recycled.”
