Baidu Uses AI To Fortify The Public Cloud

At the time of its inception, the public cloud was a revolutionary, game-changing introduction to the Internet. This invention has proven itself to be as useful as it is volatile. But fret not, as Baidu is coming to the rescue!

Furthermore, as great as the public cloud is, it is susceptible and vulnerable to malicious individuals. This has greatly hampered the development of sensitive technologies.

Function as a Service (Faas)

This is a category of cloud computing services. These services give customers the ability to run, manage, and develop app functionalities without going through the troubles of creating and maintaining the infrastructure associated with developing an application.

Moreover, this service enables developers to achieve architecture free of servers. This is done by creating applications using the FaaS model.

Baidu

Baidu is a Chinese technology company specializing in offering Internet-related products and services. It operates out of Beijing’s Haidian District.

Another specialization of Baidu is Artificial Intelligence. As a matter of fact, it is one of the largest internet and AI companies in the world.

Founded on January 18th, 2000, this company is consistently ranked in the top 5 of the Alexa Internet rankings.

Baidu’s MesaTEE

On September 10th, 2018, Baidu announced the launch of MesaTEE, a memory safe FaaS computing framework.

According to Baidu’s Chief Security Scientist, “MesaTEE combines the power of the Baidu HMS model and Intel® SGX to provide a breakthrough solution to expand the trust boundary of the Internet.”

The need for MesaTEE came about as a result of a growing need for security measurements. As more and more industries delve into the world of cloud services, security has become a major stumbling block for sensitive industries.

Consequently, current FaaS solutions have failed to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of data and code in public clouds. MesaTEE serves as a complete solution enabling a higher level of security for critical services.

MesaTEE’s Security

MesaTEE is equipped with HMS and non-bypassable security, which enables MesaTEE to withstand and repel most malicious exploits.

Furthermore, MesaTEE allows users to remotely measure and attest to the environment, thereby ensuring that remote execution operates as it should.

The Future of MesaTEE

Moreover, this software provides a few advantages to its users; furthermore, it allows users to establish encrypted end-to-end channels across clouds, and between users and the cloud.

In conclusion, by doing this, Baidu has taken one step closer in its quest to make a complex world simpler through technology.
