New York-based blockchain company, Blocktech, will establish an academic Blockchain Lab in Armenia. Consequently, Blocktech have sealed a partnership deal with French University of Armenia (UFAR) to that effect.
According to Blocktech, the lab will be the first in the country. Basically, the objective of establishing the lab is to conduct interdisciplinary research into cryptoeconomic application of the innovative blockchain technology. Some departments in the varsity have already shown genuine interest in collaborating with the company to achieve the goal. These departments include Finance, Law, Information Science, and Applied Mathematics.
For the most part, the knowledge-based collaboration will focus on definite key subject areas. Such as decentralized application (dApp) architecture, token-curated registries, bonding curves, and smart contract development. Other areas of interest are Zap platform-based oracle and curation services, and crypto-economic design patterns. Notably, through the widely-anticipated collaboration, the university students can take courses in blockchain technology and cryptocurrency. Indeed, the courses will cover both business and technical aspects of the subject. To be able to solve real-world problems, industry technologists will mentor students to design and develop real-world projects.
Nick Spanos, the CEO of Blocktech, observed that the rise of blockchain will propel the increase of ecosystems based on “commoditized trust.” Spanos, who is the founder of the first live cryptocurrency trading floor in New York, Bitcoin Center, defined cryptoeconomics; the chief executive noted that cryptoeconomics is a field that deals with the study of human behavior and system design in a decentralized world.
Regarding the reception of Blocktech, a lecturer at the Department of Informatics and Applied Mathematics, Kristina Sargsyan, gave a vote of gratitude. Further, she noted that the university is proud to partner with Blocktech. Sargsyan, who doubles as the university’s Program Coordinator for Industry Partnerships, eulogized Spanos’ pioneering works in blockchain technology. Later, she expressed the hope that UFAR/Blocktech will increase the opportunities for their students.
For one year and counting, the Blocktech team has been exploring the technological ecosystem in Armenia. On the invitation of the Armenian government, Spanos visited Yerevan in January 2018. In Armenia, he spoke at the National Assembly of Armenia, and American University of Armenia. Additionally, Spanos delivered keynote addresses in many different forums in the country.
After the visit, Blocktech opened an office in the capital city of Yerevan with Peter Mikkelsen, founder of Nordic Blockchain Association, in charge. The Blockchain Lab at UFAR will be Blocktech’s second lab. If you recall, the company earlier announced the establishment of Blockchain Lab at Taibah University in Madinah.
