Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) Converge Spark & Webex Platforms Into One; Win A Patent Supporting Bitcoin Mining

Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) has decided to eliminate the separate versions of its Spark products and converge them on one Webex platform. It means that the Spark platform will be called “Webex Teams.” That transition will be followed by with the launch of a host of new applications including Webex Meetings, Webex Assistant and Webex Share device. Apart from this significant change, the network tech giant also managed to conquer a major milestone by winning the patent application for a “Crowd-sourced cloud computing” system submitted in September 2015.

According to the information provided by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Cisco’s patent enables the computer owners to offer their unused processing power for carrying out certain processes such as energy-intensive mining processes. In its filing for the patent, Cisco has described how a user can create an ideal computing power scenario for a cloud application merely by partitioning their resources. Once such a cloud application becomes possible, users can use it for multiple purposes.

In its notes Cisco says, “This model is suitable for, among other things, offering distributed processing and services that can be optimized for speed, volume, scale and resiliency, cost, and regulatory compliance.” Cisco’s statement implies that users can use this cloud application for multiple purposes including distributed neighborhood theft protection systems or cluster, along with city or municipality/county relevant services. Cisco claims that in such a computational intensive ecosystem, bitcoin mining will be as convenient as it is done in mining pools.

Cisco Introduces “Video First” Through Webex Meetings

At a recently held collaboration summit, Cisco announced the converging of its Spark into Webex platform. The Webex Meetings will offer the “Video First” feature for all modern collaborations and the company expects to streamline all its meeting capabilities through this new arrangement. Participants can join the meeting using either Webex Meetings app or even the Webex Teams app, an updated form of the earlier Cisco Spark version.

As per Cisco, this rebranded form comprises of a “richer” set of tools including persistent meeting, whiteboarding, content sharing, simple guest access and more.  One of the biggest advantages of using Webex Teams for collaborating with multiple individuals or companies at one time, is the security it offers during the interaction. Unlike other companies that require making guest accounts necessary to tackle the problem of security, Cisco’s Webex platform eliminates such hassles that can lead to leakages of confidential information. Instead, the tech company’s meeting platform comes with an inbuilt B2B collaboration so that all the members of the Webex Teams can co-exist in one cloud at an instance, with one account per user.
