While the cryptocurrency market is currently on a steep downfall, some crypto projects continue to focus on backend development. Dash’s point-of-sale application, Spark, continues to make progress in both code development and funding.
Spark developer Kodaxx reveals how the app won the WTBC (Wyoming Technology Business Center) Sheridan’s 2018 Start-Up Challenge. Kodaxx says that the Challenge had 40-50 entrants of which 5 finalists were shortlisted, and 3 of them announced as winners. Moreover, Spark received $5,000 USD in cash reward along with 10 hours of pro-bono legal counsel. Also, it received an office space for 1 year to carry further development work.
The set of rewards could expand its business in the state of Wyoming. Moreover, Kodaxx is looking for additional funds to spearhead its business operations.
Kodaxx says,
“By my estimate, it could pay for 20-30 extra hours of development work, the new hardware prototypes, and a marketing strategy (put together by a real marketing agency), business development plan, branding, etc.”
Spark developer Kodaxx details his presentation to the judges which helped him win the competition. Moreover, he also explains how the PoS app managed to outclass other competing applications in the same domain.
“My presentation gave a run through of Spark with a few screenshots, a demo video using Square + Spark, and some talk about the cryptocurrency market. What I emphasized most in my presentation was fiat conversion through Uphold, InstantSend, ease of use, and the traction that Dash has in places like Venezuela and Colombia.”
Kodaxx further notes that the usability of the Spark app was the winning point for the app.
“If I had to guess, they liked that I have a live working product. There were various stages of completion amongst the finalists, some only being at the conceptual stage. It probably also helped that I showed them some infographics charting the growth of the cryptocurrency industry.”
What makes the app a diverse and valuable PoS system is its wide availability on different platforms like Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android. Kodaxx says that Spark is completely stable and functional at this point. Hence he would continue to focus on scalability while adding new features and eliminating the existing issues.
Kodaxx says that the biggest challenge he is facing in development of Spark is the availability of time. However, he acknowledges that DAO and other such contests help him to stay on his toes. The other challenge is maintaining the decentralized functionality while simultaneously continuing new development.
“Having things like transaction history is hard to do without a database, or collecting data without compromising user privacy. I understand the need for data to figure out where best to focus development efforts, but I’d like to do it in the right way.”
Kodaxx notes that it is important to identify users’ needs while making new developments and staying focused on them.
