Through a petition he created on Change.org, he has been pushing for XRP to become the official cryptocurrency of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
After an initial burst of votes, the total petitioners slowed down in number until recently. Now over the 10,000 mark, during the writing of this article, the number is gaining serious steam.
Ethereum World News first dropped the scoop on this XRP phenomenon, alerting the world to the potential of this coming to fruition. With the petition looking for 15,000 signups, it might only be a matter of hours until that number is achieved.
XRP Looks To Be Heating Up
Currently up just over 4% over the past 24 hours of trading, could XRP be on the verge of another breakout? Obviously, if this story really begins gathering steam, having XRP’s name next to the Olympics could mean big things for the crypto industry.
The Olympics is the sporting event of sporting events. Known throughout the world as the tippy-top of athletic competition, this event could end up meaning even more to the world if XRP is recognized as its official cryptocurrency.
As Takahashi mentions on the Change.org website, “As tourists stream into the country, demand for the local currency skyrockets, causing long lines at currency exchanges, as seen at past events like Beijing 2008 and Rio de Janeiro 2016. Confusing exchange rates and language barriers further complicate the problem.”
XRP could be the perfect answer to help alleviate these types of issues. With time to plan for it, why not let a cryptocurrency become the ultimate payment for the Olympics.
