Today, there seems to be a growing cryptocurrency trend among celebrities around the world. Recall that last week, CryptoBlockWire reported that rapper, Akon, was dotting his I’s and crossing his T’s in a bid to launch his cryptocurrency, AKoin. This week, another celebrity will follow in the footsteps of Akon. This time, however, he is not a musician but a professional pugilist. To be clear, you are probably living on planet Mars if you haven’t heard of Manny Pacquiao. The agile and skilled boxer needs no introduction because he has made a name for himself in the global boxing ring. Nonetheless, Pacquiao is in the news because he is branching out to cryptocurrency, thanks to GCOX.
All is set for Pacquiao to start promoting his cryptocurrency. Nonetheless, the famous boxer thinks that the right place to kick it off is at a hackathon. According to his official website, Pacquiao will be a special guest at the event, which will take place from October 11th through 12th. No, we didn’t leave out the name of his cryptocurrency, it’s the PAC token. In addition, GCOX (Global Crypto Offering Exchange) will power PAC token. Slated to be held in Manila, the hackathon will discuss the prospects of blockchain technology.
GCOX styles itself as the “world’s first platform that tokenizes popularity.” What does that mean? Literally, the cryptocurrency platform says that they specialize in helping celebs develop their personalized cryptocurrencies. Additionally, they will also manage their ITS listing. However, Pacquiao’s PAC is the first celebrity cryptocurrency that GCOX is launching on their own platform. The exchange and the boxer signed the agreement in March 2018. Today, the token is ready to hit the internet. Pacquiao’s one-time arch-rival, Floyd Mayweather, seems to be in love with cryptocurrency as well. Indeed, Mayweather at some point promoted a virtual currency startup called Central Tech with the famous music artist, DJ Khaled.
From the get-go, it is abundantly clear that there is a growing interest in cryptocurrencies among celebrities around the world. However, what is not immediately clear is the factor fueling this interest. GCOX seems to have noticed this trend. So, it has positioned itself to become the most sought-after cryptocurrency platform for “tokenizing and listing popularity.” The platform says that celebrities can capitalize on their popularity using its platform. It also added that fans could have a privileged access to their idols through the platform by purchasing these celebrity tokens.
