Tencent Games is the first game development behemoth to expand its footprint into the cryptocurrency arena. In their continued efforts, the gaming giant has inked a strategic partnership with SLIVER.tv for the creation of a 24/7 live esports channel.
The upcoming channel will feature streamers from the likes of FaZe Clan as well as Method and NRG. Likewise, it will come with interactive functionality such as prediction games, trivia, and prizes for viewers.
According to Tencent Games, Theta Rewards will power the upcoming channel. Gamers will consequently be able to purchase in-game items and carry out system upgrades using Theta tokens. Tencent, which is behind Ring of Elysium, is also contemplating the possibility of bringing Theta rewards to the battle royal game.
Gamers who stream Ring of Elysium on SLIVER.tv stand to earn Theta tokens on logging in and watching live content. Likewise, there are plans to enable the use of Theta tokens for the purchase of in-game items and skins. Effectively, users will be able to use the tokens to obtain discounts on real-world products tied to sponsorship deals.
SLIVER.tv co-Founder, Mitch Liu, expects the partnership to be of great benefit to the two companies.
“Our partnership with Tencent Games will help us continue to drive interactive esports by featuring exciting content from Ring of Elysium. Combined with our unique Theta rewards and blockchain technology, users become part of the esports experience, driving greater engagement and retention for our partners and games,” said Mr. Liu.
Theta is the native cryptocurrency powering the Theta Blockchain that seeks to power video delivery ecosystems. The blockchain rewards users in Theta tokens for re-streaming videos to other users by using excess bandwidth on other devices.
Therefore, the platform leverages aggregated user bandwidth to provide next-generation video services. As a result, it can reduce overall costs on the platform while also increasing engagement and incremental revenues.
A partnership with SLIVER.tv is a significant milestone; it marks the first time that a gaming behemoth has sought to leverage the power of cryptocurrency. Tencent is a juggernaut when it comes to revenue generation in the gaming industry.
Likewise, the partnership should go a long way in shining more light on SLIVER.tv, which is trying to make a name for itself in the cryptocurrency arena. Theta tokens continue to enjoy more media airplay, especially on the signing of a similar partnership with the likes of MBN and CJ Hello. Bithumb cryptocurrency exchange has also added support for the token.
