Ateon Forges A Blockchain Pathway For Saudi Women

Ateon tries to engage Saudi women in the fintech sector.

Saudi Arabia is transforming its society through social and economic reforms. In line with these reforms, the Saudi Government relaxed a stringent law that forbade women from driving. The lift is one of the very many steps the Kingdom has promised to take to engage more women in nation-building.

While blockchain technology is in its infancy, statistics show that there are more men than women in the field. Moreover, some researchers firmly believe that such disparity between men and women exists in a similar vein to effective decision-making in difficult times.

Ateon Is Challenging the Status Quo

Nonetheless, Ateon, the company prominent for being the first Saudi-based blockchain provider, is challenging the status quo. There is no gainsaying that the company has proven its mettle for taking bold decisions by venturing in areas that others dread. Indeed, Ateon’s courageous decision became a major talking point in 2016 for the digital transformation solution it offers. Funnily enough, at the time, most of its clients thought that Bitcoin (BTC) was synonymous to blockchain.

In following its tradition of taking bold steps, Ateon has hired multiple women to join its team. To create blockchain awareness in the region, they held workshops and roadshows. Shockingly enough, the marketing manager of Ateon, Reham Baseddiq, knew next to nothing about the technology at the time. However, she believed in the team.

What Else Is Ateon Doing?

To be sure, navigating in uncharted waters is no tea party. Though, the Ateon team is challenging the unchallenged. No doubt, they are doggedly determined. Apart from engaging women in the innovative field of blockchain technology, Ateon is going even further. Notably, the company is also spurring young ladies to look into interning in the hopes of learning more about blockchain technology, and spread awareness. To this end, they are recruiting young ladies from local female universities. The company believes that the trainees would enlighten others through articles and workshops at their various colleges.

Blockchain Technology and Women

Unfortunately, the blockchain space is male-dominated, seemingly appearing as anti-feminine. On the other hand, critics blame this trend on women, arguing that they don’t promote themselves well enough. As a male-dominated ecosystem, men control all cryptocurrency newspaper headlines and online news in the region. Reham Baseddiq says that Ateon aims to open up the space for more women to find it engaging and interesting.

From the look of things, the future is brightening for Saudi women, who wish to make a career in blockchain technology. In May 2018, the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) unveiled the FinTechSaudi initiative. While the initiative aims to encourage the fintech ecosystem, it is also a morale booster. Yes, it is a female-dominated initiative, which has given them the rare opportunity to do amazing and innovative things.
